Basketball Recap: Gulf Breeze Takes a Loss

Gulf Breeze was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 21st straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 65-25 loss at the hands of the West Florida Baptist Academy Conquerors. While losing is never fun, the Dolphins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 487th, while the Conquerors are ranked 188th).

Gulf Breeze's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Peyton Sharrett, who posted three points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Sharrett a new career-high in assists (four).

Leading West Florida Baptist Academy to victory were Bryse Burkett and Makenna Enfinger. Burkett went 11 for 23 on her way to 24 points and four steals, while Enfinger earned 15 points. Burkett has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Olivia Pearce was another key player, putting up eight points and ten rebounds.

Gulf Breeze's defeat dropped their record down to 1-22. As for West Florida Baptist Academy, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-5.

Gulf Breeze didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-35 loss against Navarre on the 29th. As for West Florida Baptist Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 69-64 win against Central on the 28th.
