After having lost a blowout in their previous game against North Babylon, Newfield was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Copiague Eagles as they made off with an 11-5 win. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Ashley Hernandez made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Hernandez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Aubrey Firenze was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Megan Coletti was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Newfield's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Copiague, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newfield will venture away from home to challenge Huntington at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Copiague, they will face off against Commack at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
