Roosevelt is 6-1 against Niwot since January of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Roosevelt Roughriders will be staying on the road to face off against the Niwot Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Roosevelt pushed their score all the way to 56 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a tough 79-56 defeat at the hands of Riverdale Ridge. While losing is never fun, Roosevelt can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while Riverdale Ridge is ranked 34th).
Seppe Salvatore put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooks Reckard, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Niwot lost to Mountain View at home by a decisive 59-44 margin on Monday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Niwot in their matchups with Mountain View: they've now lost six in a row.
Roosevelt has been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season. As for Niwot, they bumped their record down to 4-9 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home.
Roosevelt beat Niwot 48-40 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Roosevelt since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
