It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Wando Warriors ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They snuck past Asheville School (Independent) with a 55-51 victory.
Wando can attribute much of their success to Mya Andrus, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Isabel Waite, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Asheville School (Independent)'s loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maya Robinson, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Robinson scored 15 or more points. Ryann Hernandez was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Wando's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-11. As for Asheville School (Independent), their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.
Wando won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Carolina Day at 12:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Carolina Day focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 42 on Thursday.
