The Athens Indians will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Burr Oak Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on February 8th. Hopefully Athens focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Tuesday.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 66-21, which was the final score in Athens' tilt against Calhoun Christian. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Athens in their matchups with Calhoun Christian: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Athens got a solid performance out of Kale Kiefer, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Kiefer grabbed two or more steals.
Meanwhile, Burr Oak's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight defeat. They took a 52-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Colon.
Athens dropped their record down to 0-16 with that loss, which was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Burr Oak, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
Athens lost to Burr Oak on the road by a decisive 58-39 margin when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can Athens avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
