Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Klein Collins' Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Klein Collins unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 51-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Klein Oak Panthers. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Tigers came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Panthers are ranked 223rd).

Despite the defeat, Klein Collins saw an underclassman step up: sophomore A'Niyah Harmon went 7 of 16 en route to 20 points. That was a full 46.5% of Klein Collins' points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Neal, who had six points.

Klein Oak's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maci Mote, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 19 points and five assists. The contest was Mote's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kiana Vega, who went 7 of 16 on her way to 17 points and six rebounds.

Klein Collins' loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 14-4. As for Klein Oak, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-5.

Klein Collins didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 34-32 defeat against Tomball Memorial on the 13th. As for Klein Oak, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 48-40 loss against Tomball on the 13th.
