After flying high against the Cotulla Cowboys last Tuesday, the Crystal City Javelinas came back down to earth. Crystal City took a serious blow against Lytle on Friday, falling 62-35. While losing is never fun, Crystal City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 905th, while Lytle is ranked 360th).
Crystal City lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Vianey Garcia, who scored eight points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Alyson Mata, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Calyssa Sevier continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lytle, dropping a triple-double on 31 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 steals. Sevier is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Garcia, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Crystal City's loss dropped their record down to 14-14. As for Lytle, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-7.
Crystal City will be playing at home against Dilley at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Dilley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last nine games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Lytle, they will head out on the road to take on Natalia at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Natalia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Friday.
