Given Frederick W's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 123rd in Maryland, while Evergreen Christian is ranked 321st in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the defeat, Evergreen Christian saw an underclassman step up: Veronica Brett scored four points along with eight rebounds and six steals. That's the first time this season that Brett pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Frederick W's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. As for Evergreen Christian, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Frederick W won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Fairfax HomeSchool at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th.
