Lakewood extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 4-13. They lost 19-6 to the James Kenan Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 back in March.
Lakewood saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caitlyn Bass, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Another was Alivia Thames, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
As for James Kenan, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games.
On James Kenan's side, Peyton Ezzell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Ezzell a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Jourdan Joe was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Kenadi Gideons was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Lakewood wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 19-3 loss against East Bladen on the 28th. As for James Kenan, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 17-2 victory against Princeton on the 28th.
