INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -
Carmel (Ind.) captured the lead in the fourth quarter and held on for a 17-7 victory over
Lawrence Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) on Saturday. The Greyhounds took the lead for good when
Jake Fehribach thew a touchdown to
Austin Roberts.
The Greyhounds led 3-0 at halftime, but the Bears recaptured the lead on a touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the third. Carmel grabbed hold of the lead when Fehribach thew a touchdown to Roberts with 11:00 to go in the fourth quarter, and never relinquished it.
Lawrence Central scored on a touchdown run by
Tyler Redfern in the quarter.
The loss came as a surprise for LC, which entered the game ranked No. 1 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Indiana, while CHS was ranked No. 7. The Indianapolis school came into the game having won zero of the past two games between the two teams.
Lawrence Central's lone touchdown came on a 59-yard run by Redfern in the third quarter.
A 34-14 Carmel victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The win was a nice bounce back for Carmel, which lost to Center Grove last week, 35-26. The loss comes after Lawrence Central defeated Trinity 17-13 last week. The loss snapped Lawrence Central's three-game winning streak. The victory ended Carmel's two-game losing streak.
In a Metropolitan game next week Lawrence Central (3-1) takes on Center Grove, and Carmel (2-2) will go up against Lawrence North also in a Metropolitan game.
