The Broad Run Spartans''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They and John Champe were almost perfectly matched up, but Broad Run suffered an agonizing 55-54 defeat. While losing is never fun, Broad Run can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 189th, while John Champe is ranked 46th).
When it comes to explaining why Broad Run lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aslin Shipe. Despite the final result, he rushed for 323 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. Shipe is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gavin Sidhu, who rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown.
Leading John Champe to victory were Greg Spiller and Tyler Kann. Spiller rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, while Kann rushed for 42 yards and three touchdowns. Jake Moskowitz was another key contributor, picking up 57 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Broad Run's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for John Champe, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Broad Run will head out on the road to face off against Tuscarora at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tuscarora will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line. As for John Champe, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Freedom at 7:00 p.m.
