Softball Recap: Lennard Wins Going Away Against Gateway

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lennard walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Gateway Eagles on Monday. Considering the Longhorns have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Lennard got a massive performance out of Hannah Rooks, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Rooks has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sarita Hernandez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Lennard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive games.

Lennard pushed their record up to 9-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Gateway, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

Lennard will square off against Parrish Community at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Longhorns' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulls have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. Gateway does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
