The Wolfe County Wolves pushed their score all the way to 55 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 56-55 to Betsy Layne. Wolfe County has not had much luck with Betsy Layne recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Wolfe County saw an underclassman step up: Corey Flinchum scored 22 points along with eight rebounds. Flinchum scored a full 40% of Wolfe County's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Creech, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Betsy Layne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrew Kidd, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds. Those 14 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Tanner Martin, who scored ten points.
Wolfe County's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Betsy Layne, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wolfe County will square off against Hazard at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hazard will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. As for Betsy Layne, they will head out on the road to face off against Martin County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kentucky (Martin County is ranked 84th, while Betsy Layne is ranked 107th).
