Baseball Recap: Kearny Wins Going Away Against University Academy Charter

Kearny got themselves on the board against University Academy Charter on Wednesday, but University Academy Charter never followed suit. They blew past the Generals 16-0. The result was nothing new for the Kardinals, who have now won four games by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Jayden Diaz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Kearny let Jonah Menendez and Julian Butler run wild. Menendez got on base in two of his four plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base, while Butler went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those four runs gave Menendez a new career-high. Ismael Diaz was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three RBI.

Kearny always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Kearny now has a winning record of 6-5. As for University Academy Charter, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kearny will head out to challenge Clifton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for University Academy Charter, they will venture away from home to square off against Bergen Charter at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
