Julia Lambert was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Desiree Shoblo, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Maddy Yoon, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Alameda always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Encinal only posted an OBP of .296.
Meanwhile, Bishop O'Dowd entered their contest against Castro Valley on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Dragons lost 14-3 to the Trojans.
Jaella Mercado was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Alameda is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop O'Dowd, their loss dropped their record down to 16-7.
Bishop O'Dowd's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Alameda has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bishop O'Dowd, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Alameda keep running through batters, or will the Dragons buck the trend?
Alameda took their win against Bishop O'Dowd in their previous meeting last Friday by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
