After flying high against the Southport Cardinals last Thursday, the Whiteland Warriors came back down to earth. Whiteland suffered a rough 60-35 defeat at the hands of Shelbyville on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Whiteland has suffered since November 28, 2023.
Whiteland's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sophia Dyer, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds, and Carly Vondielingen who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Ava Wilson was her usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with five steals for Shelbyville. Wilson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Keller, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Whiteland now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Shelbyville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Whiteland's road trip will continue as they head out to face Franklin Community at 1:30 p.m. on January 20th. Franklin Community will be looking to keep their ten-game home win streak alive. Shelbyville will take on Delta at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Delta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Thursday.
