Lamar is 9-0 against Bellaire since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Lamar Texans will head out on the road to face off against the Bellaire Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Lamar is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
Lamar put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season two weeks ago. They didn't even let Chavez onto the board and left with a 81-0 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Lamar just coasted through the last quarter.
Lamar can attribute much of their success to Chaseston Guidry, who rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns, and Justin Howard, who gained 138 total yards and three touchdowns. Guidry was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 53 yards. Pedro Carreon got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Bellaire entered their tilt with Chavez with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Bellaire blew past Chavez 55-8 on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-8.
Will Hazen was on fire: he threw for 208 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Chance Diebner was another key contributor, gaining 109 total yards and three touchdowns.
Lamar's victory was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Chavez and 0-9 West Brook (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34.2% over those games). As for Bellaire, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Everything came up roses for Lamar against Bellaire when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 63-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lamar since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
