New Kent has gone a perfect 10-0 against Jamestown recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Trojans will host the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (New Kent has five straight victories, Jamestown has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, New Kent made easy work of Tabb and carried off a 14-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won ten games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Abbie Kegley made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Kegley was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, New Kent let Brooklyn Wiles and Hannah Tober run wild. Wiles got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Tober went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Wiles has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kendall White, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
New Kent hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in nine consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Jamestown came up short against Poquoson on Friday, falling 11-1.
Jamestown saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sam Due, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.
New Kent pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Jamestown, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. New Kent has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .503. However, it's not like Jamestown struggles in that department as they've averaged .433. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went New Kent's way against Jamestown in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as New Kent made off with a 15-1 victory. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
