Basketball Game Preview: Economedes Jaguars vs. Edinburg Bobcats

Economedes is 0-10 against Edinburg since January of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Economedes Jaguars face off against the Edinburg Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. Edinburg took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Economedes, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Economedes turned things around against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Bears 30-27. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Jaguars have posted since December 13, 2024.

Economedes' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wendy Serrato, who posted 11 points and three steals. That's the most steals Serrato has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alessey Rodriguez, who earned seven points and ten rebounds.

Economedes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, Edinburg's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 40-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of La Joya. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bobcats came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 401st, while the Coyotes are ranked 811th).

Economedes' win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 9-15. As for Edinburg, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 19-13.

Economedes took a serious blow against Edinburg in their previous meeting on January 10th, falling 54-16. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Economedes was down 28-6.
