The Hillcrest Jaguars entered their tilt with the Escambia County Blue Devils with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Hillcrest snuck past Escambia County with a 65-59 win on Monday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Robert Simpson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jermonte Stallworth, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Escambia County's loss came despite strong showings from Stephen Williams and Cleo Bolar jr.. Williams dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Bolar jr. scored 23 points along with two steals. That was a full 39% of Escambia County's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael French, who scored six points.
Hillcrest pushed their record up to 20-4 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Escambia County, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.
Hillcrest will face off against Robertsdale at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Robertsdale focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Friday. As for Escambia County, they will be playing at home against Jackson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
