Heartland II recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mount Carmel, who took down 33rd ranked Mount Carmel, 32-29. Kyle Datres threw for 75 yards and ran for 71 yards in the win.
Hughesville's Dakota Nixon recorded the longest rushing play in Heartland II this season in his game against Montoursville last week. Nixon scampered for 65 yards on the play and finished with 73 on the day as his team lost to the Warriors.
The RED TORNADOES's dynamic duo of Zach Wasilewski and Tyler Holleran proved tough for Loyalsock Township. to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wasilewski threw for 155 yards and three touchdowns and Holleran had 88 yards receiving. Rob Varano helped Mount Carmel's passing attack out by catching six balls for 76 yards.
Clay Stoner was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 145 yards as Montoursville lost to the Lancers. Teammate Cameron Ott added to the ground attack by rushing for 78 yards.
Jordan Thivierge provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Central Columbia beat Milton. He completed 12 passes for 214 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 18 yards. Thivierge's favorite target this week was Jarrod Flick, who caught three passes for 88 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback Thivierge of the Bluejays is the league leader in passing yards this season with 685. He has also thrown five touchdowns. On the ground, JC Keefer's team's Stoner has rushed for 462 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Varano. The Mount Carmel star has 16 catches for 232 yards.
A big matchup in Heartland II this week will be when the Warriors take on Carmen DeFrancesco's team. As it stands, Montoursville is in second, while the RED TORNADOES are in fourth.
There should be lots of points scored when the Warriors and Mount Carmel face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Montoursville comes in having scored 144 this season, while the RED TORNADOES have scored 130. The Warriors scored 42 points last week as they bested Hughesville.
Lewisburg was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. The Green Dragons defeated Shikellamy 24-14 earlier in the week.
