The Williamsport Millionaires will head out on the road to face off against the Dallas Mountaineers at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Williamsport is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Williamsport took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Selinsgrove by a score of 7-2. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Ryan Schur tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Williamsport's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cole Deitrick, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Deitrick has posted since back in April. Deshaun White was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Williamsport hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Selinsgrove struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, Dallas beat Greater Nanticoke Area 11-6 on Thursday. The Mountaineers haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Nick Bednar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.
At the plate, Kaden Coyne was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Connor Healey, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Williamsport's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Dallas, their record now sits at 9-5.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Williamsport hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Dallas struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
