Brookwood has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against The South Gwinnett Comets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, Brookwood lost to Parkview at home by a decisive 43-24 margin. While losing is never fun, Brookwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 80th, while Parkview is ranked 17th).
The losing side was boosted by Brayden Tyson, who rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Tyson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards. Another player making a difference was Cameron French, who rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, South Gwinnett had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Newton 31-28.
Jared Echols was the offensive standout of the game as he threw for 230 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt. South Gwinnett also got a significant boost from Xavier Butler, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 105 yards.
Brookwood's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Parkview, Grayson, and Newton. As for South Gwinnett, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Brookwood didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against South Gwinnett in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 33-27 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brookwood since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
