The Cannon Cougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Charlotte S Stampede at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cannon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Cannon barely beat Concord Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Cannon blew past Concord Academy 7-1 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.
Bennett Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up ten Ks. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Cannon let Colin Kieley and Mason Mierzwa run wild. Kieley scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Mierzwa scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Mierzwa has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Victor Lopez, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Charlotte S came up short against Pro Stock Royals Academy on Tuesday and fell 5-2.
Charlotte S saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bowen Macy, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Charlotte S' defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Cannon, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Charlotte S' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Cannon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Charlotte S, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Cannon keep running through batters, or will Charlotte S buck the trend?
Cannon came out on top in a nail-biter against Charlotte S in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cannon since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
