The Vance County Vipers will take on the Louisburg Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Tuesday, Vance County was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 63-58 to South Granville. While the Vipers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Vikings 17-10 in the first quarter.
The losing side was boosted by Damon Heggie, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Del'Quaveon Bullock, who posted ten points and three steals.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Louisburg). They took down Falls Lake 66-52 on Thursday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Firebirds recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Louisburg found their leader in sophomore Micheal McLean, who dropped a double-double with 32 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which McLean has scored at least a third of the Warriors' points. Jeremiah Closs was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.
Louisburg was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Vance County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Louisburg, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's game: Vance County has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 76.2% of their three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Louisburg, though, as they've only made 22.6% of their three-pointers this season. Given Vance County's sizable advantage in that area, the Warriors will need to find a way to close that gap.
Vance County barely slipped by Louisburg when the teams last played back in February, winning 47-46. Do the Vipers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
