Softball Recap: Otay Ranch Has No Trouble Against Torrey Pines

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Otay Ranch). They put the hurt on the Torrey Pines Falcons with a sharp 7-1 victory on Monday. The Mustangs have beaten the Falcons the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Falcons has come to flipping the script.

Zoey Gonzales spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on eight hits.

At the plate, Kaylin Phillips was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kalina Sangalang, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Otay Ranch hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.

The win got Otay Ranch back to even at 2-2-1. As for Torrey Pines, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Otay Ranch will take on Patrick Henry at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Otay Ranch's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Patrick Henry's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Torrey Pines, they will challenge Valhalla at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
