The Woodside Wolverines will head out on the road to challenge the Kecoughtan Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Woodside turned things around against Warwick on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 9-3 victory. The Wolverines not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17th (when they won 22-2).

Mattaniah Cook

04/22/25 @ Denbigh | 8 |
04/17/25 vs Heritage | 8 |
03/27/25 @ Phoebus | 8 |
04/03/25 vs Bethel | 5 |
Mattaniah Cook made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mason Mompoint was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Woodside is 5-2 when Mompoint posts two or more runs, but 1-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Connor Castillo, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kecoughtan, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Denbigh get on the board and left with a 13-0 win on Thursday.
Brayden Fields tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Henry Hampton was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Connor Francis also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Kecoughtan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in three consecutive games.
Kecoughtan is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Woodside, their record is now 6-10.
