Adam Traylor made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Southwestern: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, Austin Jenkins was excellent, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Southwestern is undefeated when Jenkins posts two or more runs, but 0-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Braxton Lewis, who went 1-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Southwestern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 8.8.
Meanwhile, Silver Creek was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over Columbus East. The win continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with the Olympians: they've now won four in a row.
Southwestern's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Silver Creek, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
