Basketball Recap: Wauneta-Palisade Takes a Loss

Wauneta-Palisade played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the South Platte Blue Knights an easy 71-47 victory. The loss continues a trend for the Broncos in their matchups with the Blue Knights: they've now lost four in a row.

Defeat or not, Wauneta-Palisade got some senior leadership from Aden Acton and Ashton Wheeler. Acton dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Wheeler posted 16 points. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for Acton.

Quinten Koenen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for South Platte, almost dropping a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Koenen a new career-high in assists (seven). Nathan Jacobs was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Wauneta-Palisade's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for South Platte, their record is now 4-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Wauneta-Palisade and Cheylin will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another on January 7, 2025. Wauneta-Palisade is facing Cheylin at the right time seeing as Cheylin is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for South Platte, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Perkins County at 3:30 p.m. on December 31st. Perkins County will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something South Platte surely won't give up without a fight.
