The Chen Chargers are taking a road trip to take on The Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chen is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Chen is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Chapelgate Christian Academy last Monday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellowjackets. The contest marked the Chargers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Luisito Cardona put in work no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Cardona was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those RBI were his first of the season.
Cardona wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tanner Viernes, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. That hit was Viernes' first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask The Heights). Everything went their way against St. Andrew's Episcopal on Monday as they made off with a 14-4 victory. The win was nothing new for The Heights as they're now sitting on four straight.
Luke Shepherd was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of James Mraz, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
The Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.
The Heights' record is now 5-6-1. As for Chen, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
Chen's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Chargers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for The Heights, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Chen continue to outrun the ball?
