McDowell has gone a perfect 10-0 against Erie recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Trojans are taking a road trip to square off against the Royals at 4:30 p.m. McDowell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
McDowell took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They blew past Warren 9-0. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
McDowell got a great performance from Ethan Bechtold as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Bechtold has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Evan Stranko was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Quentin Orlando, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
McDowell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Warren only posted a batting average of .091.
Erie couldn't beat Fort LeBoeuf on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Royals fell just short of the Bison by a score of 8-7. The loss continues a trend for the Royals in their meetings with the Bison: they've now lost three in a row.
Erie saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Barnes, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Barnes has hit this season. Another was Brandon Cosme, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
McDowell pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Erie, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
Everything went McDowell's way against Erie when the teams last played on April 7th, as McDowell made off with an 18-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
