Leonia is 0-10 against the Golden Bears since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Leonia Lions will face off against the Lyndhurst Golden Bears at 2:00 p.m. Leonia is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road.
Leonia put the finishing touches on their 13th blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They breezed by Bergen Charter at home to the tune of 39-7. Given Leonia's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the are ranked 401st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Lyndhurst strolled past the Aviators with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 41-24.
Lyndhurst got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Asya Akar out in front who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. Akar has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Brooke Harper was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Leonia has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. As for Lyndhurst, their win bumped their record up to 15-5.
Leonia was taken down by the Golden Bears 64-25 in their previous meeting back in February of 2022. Can Leonia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
