After flying high against the Chula Vista Spartans on Thursday, the El Capitan Vaqueros came back down to earth. El Capitan fell 62-51 to West on Friday. While losing is never fun, El Capitan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 659th, while West is ranked 318th).
El Capitan's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chance LaChappa, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and five assists. LaChappa hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kale Curo, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
El Capitan's loss dropped their record down to 12-3. As for West, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-4.
El Capitan won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mar Vista at 5:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Mar Vista is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. West won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Southwest SD at 6:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Southwest SD knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten contests -- so hopefully West likes a good challenge.
