Softball Recap: Berne Union Has No Trouble Against Harvest Prep

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Millersport, Berne Union was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Harvest Prep Warriors with a sharp 24-3 win. The Rockets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Reese Besco made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Besco was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylee North, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Josilyn Hedges, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Berne Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory snapped Berne Union's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-9 record. As for Harvest Prep, they dropped their record down to 2-15 with the loss, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Berne Union and Harvest Prep could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Rockets will challenge Hayes at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (497 vs. 13). Meanwhile, Harvest Prep (ranked 720th) will meet Grove City Christian (ranked 290th) at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
