On Saturday, the Spanish Springs Cougars faced the Douglas Tigers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Spanish Springs fell  51-40 to Douglas. The  loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Spanish Springs in their matchups with Douglas: they've now lost five in a row.
 When it comes to explaining why Spanish Springs lost, one person who can't be blamed is  Layni Noonkester. Despite the final result, she  scored ten points along with three  steals. The  matchup was  Noonkester's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of  Addison Bowers, who  scored six points.
 Douglas found their leader in underclassman  Hailee Koontz, who  scored 14 points along with six  rebounds. Koontz set a new season high mark in  steals with two.  Skylyn Rasmussen was another key contributor,  scoring four points.
 Spanish Springs has  been struggling recently, as they've  lost five of their last six matches,  which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season. As for Douglas, the  victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-5.
 Spanish Springs will be playing in front of their home fans against McQueen at 5:15  p.m.  on Tuesday. McQueen is coming into the  matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Douglas, they will head out on the road to face off against Damonte Ranch at 5:15  p.m.  on Tuesday. Damonte Ranch will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
