Vintage and Justin-Siena are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Vintage Crushers will head out on the road to face off against the Justin-Siena Braves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Vintage didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Casa Grande, but they still walked away with a 59-53 victory. That's two games straight that Vintage has won by exactly six points.
Vintage's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathan Marroquin led the charge by scoring nine points along with seven steals and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Gongora, who scored 19 points.
Meanwhile, Justin-Siena had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.6 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Saturday. They snuck past American Canyon with a 59-54 victory. Given Justin-Siena's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while American Canyon is ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Vintage is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-15 record this season. As for Justin-Siena, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-3.
Vintage took a serious blow against Justin-Siena in their previous meeting back in January, falling 77-47. Can Vintage avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
