1A District 6 recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to St. Edmund, who took down 185th ranked St. Edmund, 40-34.
Catholic of Pointe Coupee's Andrew Jarreau rumbled for the longest rushing play in 1A District 6 this season in his game against Opelousas Catholic last week. Jarreau's team defeated the Vikings as he sprinted for 63 yards on the play and finished with 100 in all.
Westminster Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Luke Judice threw for 187 and two touchdowns and Jalen Williams had 149 yards receiving. On the ground Tyler Louviere chipped in 102 yards. Chaiziere Malbrue helped Westminster Academy's passing attack out by catching one ball for 15 yards.
Westminster Academy's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Crusaders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Judice has thrown for 642 yards and 34 touchdowns this season, while Williams has 20 catches for 305 yards. Judice also leads the league in rushing with 282 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Crusaders take on Pointe Coupee Central. Westminster Academy's offense has scored 137 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Cougars have allowed only 131 on the year.
A big matchup in 1A District 6 this week will be when Sacred Heart takes on Catholic of Pointe Coupee. The Trojans are in fifth place, while Robert Funderburk's team is in third place.
The Hornets moved up to 184 from 237 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 20-14 win over Opelousas Catholic helped Catholic of Pointe Coupee improve its standing.
