If the Heartland Lutheran Red Hornets were feeling good off their 40-19 takedown of the Harvard Cardinals last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Heartland Lutheran took a serious blow against Dorchester on Thursday, falling 67-22. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Heartland Lutheran has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Heartland Lutheran saw an underclassman step up: Ella Francl scored nine points. Aubree Fisket was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Heartland Lutheran struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Heartland Lutheran's defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.2 points per game. As for Dorchester, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Heartland Lutheran will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Axtell at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Axtell is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. Dorchester will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Lewiston on Thursday. Lewiston comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
