Gray's Creek is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Lumberton is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Bears will host the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gray's Creek will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Gray's Creek is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Douglas Byrd get on the board and left with a 23-0 victory on Friday. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.
Gunner Sterling was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Dalton Williams, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Gray's Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .633. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Lumberton narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past South View 1-0.
South View's batters probably weren't too happy with Caiden Hall, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (he gave up three walks). Hall has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lumberton's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brody Stueck, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Gray's Creek has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Lumberton, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Gray's Creek has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Lumberton struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gray's Creek couldn't quite finish off Lumberton when the teams last played back in March and fell 4-2. Will the Bears have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
