Palacios hasn't had much luck against Columbia recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Palacios Sharks will challenge the Columbia Roughnecks at 10:00 a.m. Palacios is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
While Palacios didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They won by a run and slipped past Brazos 12-11.
Trey Wexilman was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. James Trammell was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Palacios always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, while Columbia put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Van Vleck. Everything went Columbia's way against Van Vleck as Columbia made off with a 12-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Roughnecks in their matchups with the Leopards: they've now won four in a row.
The team relied heavily on Grant Thrasher, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Palacios pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.4 runs across that stretch. As for Columbia, their record now sits at 5-7-2.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Palacios hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Columbia struggles in that department as they've averaged .374. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
