In what's become a running theme this season, the Trinidad Miners gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. They blew past Dolores Huerta Prep 41-17. The win was some much needed relief for Trinidad as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Layla Maes had an outrageously good game as she scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Monserrad Viera Flores was another key contributor, scoring no points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Dolores Huerta Prep lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Faith Mendez, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Dolores Huerta Prep struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Trinidad racked up 12 assists.
Trinidad's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-9. As for Dolores Huerta Prep, they dropped their record down to 3-13 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Trinidad will take on Custer County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Trinidad focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Monday. As for Dolores Huerta Prep, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Thomas MacLaren School at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th. Dolores Huerta Prep comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
