Basketball Recap: Melbourne Central Catholic Beats Merritt Island Christian for Their Third Straight Win

Melbourne Central Catholic won the last time they faced Merritt Island Christian, and Grady Bonenberger did his part to make sure it happened again. The Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers took their contest on Monday with ease, bagging a 62-24 win over the Merritt Island Christian Cougars thanks in part to Bonenberger, who went 8 of 10 on his way to 18 points along with seven boards and four steals. Bonenberger is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least four every time he's taken the court this season.

The team also got some help courtesy of Dyllan Drygas, who posted five points in addition to six boards and four steals. What's more, he also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2023.

Carter Stevenson and Connor Angstadt certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Stevenson had seven points, while Angstadt posted six points.

The victory (which was Melbourne Central Catholic's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Merritt Island Christian, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 3-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Melbourne Central Catholic will welcome West Melbourne Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Merritt Island Christian, they will host St. Edward's at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Edward's is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.2 points per game this season.
