The last two weeks were definitely not a fluke - Bryce McGovern is a star in the making.
The junior receiver stepped it up in a huge way with 10 catches for 300 yards and five touchdowns as the host Monte Vista High Mustangs (Danville, Calif.), No. 2 in the San Francisco Chronicle Metro Area rankings, cruised to a 54-21 win over No. 14 Heritage on Friday night.
McGovern entered with 12 catches and 321 yards and he had three interceptions in a 45-25 win over Pittsburg the week before.
According to a Contra Costa Times report, UCLA-bound quarterback Brett Nottingham completed 14 of 18, for 371 yards and touchdown passes of 68, 21, 25, 75 and 15 yards. Greg Johnson added 134 yards rushing for the Mustangs, who piled up a whopping 624 yards.
Heritage, which got 138 yards rushing from DeShaun McCoy, piled up 437 of its own but was never really in the game.

Brierly Lindberg, who had earlier missed an extra point, made ammends with a 19-yard field goal at the buzzer giving the Wolverines, 3-0, the victory the visiting Colts, 1-3.
Sprinter Sean Combs returned a kickoff 85 yards for a score and halfback Brandon Williams fired an 80-yard touchdown pass to Tim Jefferies for Deer Valley.

With 7:28 remaining, Yellowjackets' running back Rickey Galvin romped 34 yards for the only second-half score, as undefeated and host Berkeley (4-0) scored a comeback victory over the Pirates (1-3).
Berkeley trailed 16-12 at halftime but Galvin, a 5-8 165-pound scatback, pulled his team through by accounting for all three touchdowns.
He finished with 233 yards on 33 carries with TDs on runs of 55, one and 34 yards.
Pittsburg had the lead and was driving towards another possible score when star running back Erick Dargan injured his left leg during a 12-yard gain with 7:56 left in the third quarter.
He did not return.

Trojan quarterback Mike Russell's 52-yard run with 11:27 remaining was the difference in a battle of North Bay teams. Drew Pawlan sealed the victory with an interception, his second takeaway of the game. Teammate Ricky Sims went for 108 yards rushing and a touchdown, according to the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.
Petaluma is now 4-0 entering Sonoma County League play while Rancho Cotate drops to 2-1 entering North Bay League action.
Lincoln 21, El Cerrito 20
According to the Contra Costa Times, Eric Beverly rushed for 131 yards and he turn a short pass from Elroi Carpenter and turned it into a 68-yard touchdown giving the three-time defending San Francisco Section champions a road victory.
Andrew Williams rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown for El Cerrito, 2-2. Lincoln improved to 1-3.
Palo Alto 61, Gilroy 7
Christoph Bono, threw for 225 yards and four touchdowns and Joc Pederson caught four balls for 107 yards, including touchdowns of 15 and 35 yards for Paly (2-1).
Bono is the son of former NFL quarterback Steve Bono.
