Midway is 2-8 against Meigs County since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Midway Green Wave will head out on the road to take on the Meigs County Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Midway sitting on four straight victories and Meigs County on eight.
Midway will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating Oakdale, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Midway never let Oakdale get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Green Wave, who have now won four games by 15 runs or more so far this season.
Caiden Brewer made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rowynn McClure, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Midway is undefeated when McClure posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Pepper Willoughby, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
While Meigs County didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Tellico Plains on Tuesday as Meigs County made off with a 7-1 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.
Like Midway, Meigs County also got a great game from a two-way player: William Hogan. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Hogan posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Meigs County got a great performance from Chris Hull as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Hull has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Bowen Combs was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Adam Mason was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Meigs County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Midway, their record now sits at 4-5.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Midway has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. However, it's not like Meigs County struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Midway might still be hurting after the 16-6 loss they got from Meigs County when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can Midway avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
