Basketball Recap: Palmetto Takes a Loss

Palmetto scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They took a blow against the Wren Hurricanes, falling 76-42. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 47th).

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daijah Littlejohn, who posted 12 points. Littlejohn continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Carrigan Holbert, who had eight points and eight rebounds.

Wren got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Keyana West out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. Those 21 points gave West a new career-high. Hailey Burgess was another key player, putting up 12 points along with seven boards and seven steals.

Palmetto now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Wren, their win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

Palmetto didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 35-31 loss against Brashier Middle College Charter on the 12th. As for Wren, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 62-53 defeat against T.L. Hanna on the 11th.
