Ben Davis is 1-7 against Plainfield since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Giants will be playing in front of their home fans against the Quakers at 6:00 p.m. Ben Davis has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Ben Davis is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Cathedral on Thursday. They came up short against the Fighting Irish, falling 16-2.
Meanwhile, Plainfield waltzed into their game on Wednesday with 16 straight wins... but they left with 17. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Pioneers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Quakers have posted against the Pioneers since May 21, 2019.
Sidney Parks spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Maci Hanlin was excellent, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cali Clemments, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Plainfield's victory was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ben Davis, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ben Davis has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Plainfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
