Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mattanawcook to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrew Oliver, who went 6 of 9 en route to 15 points along with five boards and five steals. Oliver has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of True Weatherbee, who went 9 of 11 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds.
While Dexter didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They snuck past Penobscot Valley with a 38-34 victory on Friday.
Dexter's win came from a few key players Mattanawcook will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Bryce Cooper, who posted 11 points along with five boards and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Doherty, who put up 12 points and six rebounds.
Dexter's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Mattanawcook, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mattanawcook has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Dexter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Mattanawcook was able to grind out a solid win over Dexter in their previous matchup back in January, winning 81-74. Will Mattanawcook repeat their success, or does Dexter have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
