Fairfield Central (Winnsboro, S.C.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 21 points, drop to one before the final whistle blew on a 28-27 victory over
Newberry (S.C.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
DeAndre Belton in the first quarter, the Griffins led 20-7 at the half.
Fairfield Central expanded its lead to 15 points entering the fourth quarter. FC scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Larry G. Bell.
With the win the Winnsboro school extended its winning streak to 12 games. Fairfield Central defeated Keenan 26-0 last week.
The defeat comes as a step back for Newberry, who notched a 21-9 victory over Pendleton in its previous outing. The loss snapped Newberry's three-game winning streak.
