The Caldwell Chiefs fought the good fight in their overtime match against the West Orange Mountaineers on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 58-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mountaineers. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Caldwell in their matchups with the Mountaineers: they've now lost three in a row.
Anaya Karriem was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds for West Orange. Karriem has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Kyley Gary-Grayson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Caldwell's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for West Orange, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Caldwell will take on the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Columbia will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 206th, while the Chiefs are ranked 55th). As for West Orange, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Lions at 4:00 p.m. on February 1st. Immaculate Conception is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
