Bend is a perfect 7-0 against Caldera since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Lava Bears will be playing at home against Caldera at 4:30 p.m. Bend is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Bend was able to grind out a solid victory over Mountain View, taking the game 8-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lava Bears.
Janelle Guiney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Cassidy Sandgren was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Aldrich, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Bend kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Caldera won against Redmond on Tuesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. Caldera never let Summit get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The victory continues a trend for Caldera in their matchups with Summit: they've now won six in a row.
Caldera got a massive performance out of Morgan Voll, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Voll has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Aliyah Gaffke was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Bend pushed their record up to 7-7-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Caldera, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Caldera's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bend has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Caldera, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given Bend's sizable advantage in that area, Caldera will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bend was able to grind out a solid victory over Caldera when the teams last played last Tuesday, winning 14-9. Do the Lava Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will Caldera turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
